Pastel Still Life

I planned my composition for my still life by selecting related items that would look good together in a drawing, and doing many quick thumbnail sketches. A thumbnail sketch is small fast drawing kind of like a rough draft that allows you to try many different approaches to your drawing before you do your final copy. We also used viewfinders which allow you to view your drawing from many different angles, they also help when deciding how to setup your objects for the final drawing. Many items in the pastel appear 3-dimensional, this is accomplished by coloring different parts light or dark, also known as value.
